biography
Mr. Underwood’s practice focuses on intellectual property rights with an emphasis on patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution; intellectual property due diligence in private equity and mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property law opinions; domain name acquisition and dispute resolution, technology transfer transactions such as drafting and negotiating licenses, confidentiality agreements and technology development agreements; and strategic IP consulting.

Mr. Underwood has successfully acquired patent rights on behalf of his clients in various technical fields as complex and diverse as satellite systems, heterogeneous communication networks, digital video systems, Internet telephony, Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), microprocessor design, virtual private networks, radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, cryo-treatment catheters, data compression protocols, computer graphical user interfaces, and many other areas.

Mr. Underwood also dedicates a portion of his practice to the clearance of new products and services for manufacture and distribution into the marketplace. As part of the clearance process, Mr. Underwood often engages in product and service clearance studies and prepares written opinions regarding patent infringement and patent validity.

Prior to joining CRGP, Adam Underwood practiced in the intellectual property litigation group of the Washington, D.C. office of Baker & McKenzie, where he gained considerable experience in patent and trademark disputes in the federal courts and before the International Trade Commission. Earlier in his career, Mr. Underwood was an electrical and systems engineer with several divisions of Harris Corporation, a leading manufacturer of control and communication systems and telecommunications, including High Definition Television (HDTV) and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV).
