biography
Scott Paul's practice is devoted to patent application preparation and prosecution, and strategic counseling in respect to patent rights. Mr. Paul's expert knowledge of patent application preparation and prosecution includes both United States domestic patent practice as well as international patent practice involving the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

Notably, Mr. Paul has successfully acquired patent rights on behalf of the firm's clients in technical fields ranging from mechanical devices and systems to computing technologies. Formerly an accomplished materials scientist and mechanical engineer, Mr. Paul has acquired notable experience in the preparation of patent applications and the prosecution of patent applications relating to semiconductor processing and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

Mr. Paul also dedicates a significant portion of his practice to the clearance of new products and services for manufacture and distribution into the marketplace. As part of the clearance process, Mr. Paul often engages in patent freedom-to-practice studies and prepares written opinions regarding patent infringement and patent validity.

Finally, Mr. Paul has obtained particular experience in appellate and petitions practice in the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has successfully argued dozens of appeals before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.

Prior to co-founding CRGP, Scott Paul practiced in the patent law group of the Washington, D.C. office of McDermott, Will & Emery, LLP. Mr. Paul also previously practiced patent prosecution in the law firm of Quarles & Brady, LLP. Earlier in his career, Mr. Paul was a supervisory materials engineer with Pratt & Whitney, a leading manufacturer of jet engines.
